Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are caring, friendly, kind, and always eager to learn. They come from mostly Spanish speaking homes with primarily low income, where both parents work full time. 96% of our school is on Free or Reduced lunch plans. I have students who come from rough homes, but you would never tell because of the smile on their faces. Some of my students struggle with reading and writing due to English as a second language, but they are always striving to do better. They love technology, interactive lessons, Physical Education, and anything that involves science or watching things grow. I am excited to see what the future holds for each of them.
My Project
These materials will help my students stay engaged and use hands on materials to grow in both math and reading. My students learn best when they are active and working together. These specific tools and games will provide the stepping stones towards success.
For example, my students will better understand fractions and will be more engaged in reading with books they can relate to and are interested in.
My students will also be able to bridge the two languages since most are English Language Learners. Manipulatives and books are the best way to help them grow in every subject area.
