Our third graders live in the vibrant neighborhood of Back of the Yards, Chicago. This community is full of strength, love, and resilience. It's also full of awesome students with big goals.
We are friends, problem solvers, readers, word artists, authors, illustrators, editors, mathematicians, scientists, and citizens.
We are bilingual and brilliant. We challenge each other and cheer for each other. We learn, lead, and succeed together.
Each student's experiences and curiosities guide our daily inquiry and community building.
My Project
So many individuals outside of the classroom have framed this year as one of academic loss. Despite its challenges, we are navigating remote learning and celebrating wins every day. But academics are just a slice of the pie.
As we dive into 2021 and head toward the second half of the school year, our team will continue to center the social and emotional development of our students.
These books will be used as a part of a nonfiction reading unit that explores grief, anxiety, and healing. Students will read and reflect in conjunction with their work in writing where they'll work to process grief and change.
Please help us get one of these books into the hands of each of our students so they can read along all together, in small groups, with siblings, and anytime they need a reminder about the processing tools they have.
