I work on the Northeast side of Detroit, Michigan, where classroom supplies come few and far between. As a teacher, in the urban setting, a lot of my classroom supplies and decorations do come out of my pocket and mathematics is not the favorite subject.
One decoration I love to put up for my students is anchor charts.
I create these charts to help them understand the processes for Key Concepts in Mathematics. Not only do get a wonderful, colorful classroom, I get informational guides to help my students be successful in the classroom!
These materials will be able to make a difference for my students in a multitude of ways. One way to is to have the processes to key concepts posted in the classroom so students can refer to them on the chart paper.
Another part to this is students will be able to show their work from performance task.
Students will complete the task, using the chart paper and sticky notes, and hang their work from the task around the classroom for quick feedback and discussion.
Students will also be able to get a paper copy, with the reams of paper, to take on with them to other math classes. This way that they can build upon the process in higher levels.
