My Students

Students are in third grade of our title 1 school have a tough time focusing and working without help. The third grade classes contain a mix of general education, special education and English Language learners. Students levels range from 1st grade to 5th grade. They need the most help in problem solving and working out complex problems without giving up. Students also have a difficult time taking ownership of their work as many believe they can not succeed. Given the chance they can.

My Project

Noticed that some students were bringing in Rubiks cubes and spending their entire lunch or free time period trying to solve them. These same students have a difficult time sitting still normally for 5 minutes. Upon looking at videos on how to solve which we related to coding and the use of algorithms the entire class took to the challenge of solving. I would like class sets so we can continue to use these to show them how to persevere. The idea of having them keep trying can be applied to any other subject in school and other aspects of life..
