As third graders, my students are 8 and 9 years old. They come from diverse backgrounds and join as a community of learners in our classroom.
Our children learn best when engaged directly with hands-on and minds-on projects where students explore, create, share, and grow their ideas.
Reading about a science concept can introduce an idea, but our children need to experience and explore with educational tools like Q-BA-Mazes, which can can help them grow, test, and apply their understanding.
My Project
In “Problem Solving & Creative Thinking with Gravity Mazes,” our students will discover how to create puzzles of varying and increasing difficulty as well as problem solve and overcome different challenges. As part of their problem solving, students utilize the engineering process to revise and improve their models to meet their project needs.
Our students will be developing problem solving skills through maze building and developing pathways that reach an intended goal.
Using the engineering process, students will experiment with their ideas and make adjustments as needed. Our students will become engineers as they design, build, and ideate their plans and celebrate as they create pathways around obstacles and transport their package.
Your generous donation of Q-Ba-Mazes will directly support our 3rd graders in growing their understanding and application of the Engineering Design Process. The project is designed to promote critical thinking and problem solving within the context of engineering challenges through maze building. One of our primary goals is for students to become engineers themselves and by tackling a challenge, asking questions, postulating hypotheses, developing ideas, plan and carry out investigations, and evolving their designs through real world application. Ultimately, we hope to support students in growing a love for learning!
