This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Have you ever heard of kids ASKING to do math? My students want to learn more, but we do not have the resources to move through lessons at an appropriate pace. Once they have mastered the basics, they need to continue using pencil and paper to work out more complicated problems by hand.
My students are curious and hard-working.
They are from a large city, and many have to deal with socioeconomic issues outside of school. Having these calculators in class would relieve some of the inequities that they have been experiencing in terms of resources. They're in a class called problem solving; shouldn't they have the resources they need to actually solve problems?
My Project
My students will be able to move through assessments at a normal pace with calculators. If I am not assessing their ability to perform simple operations, they should be able to use technology to assist them in those areas. Students will also use calculators to process data more rapidly during problem-solving sessions, both individually and collaboratively.
Your donations will truly be appreciated by my students because our school is underfunded.
There is not enough money to cover some basic items, and phone calculators (when students have phones) are not always capable of completing the operations that students need.
