My Students

I believe ESES is a school that is totally vested in our students. We are here to prepare all children to succeed, and find their own path in life. I teach 80 students in reading. My students have a wide range of academic levels and personalities. My dream is to have a classroom that emphasizes students' passions and interests while helping them to become independent learners. Individualization and personalization in education is where we need to move. I need to be a facilitator to my children to help prepared them for the future, where the jobs they will be filling have not yet been invented.

I love my students and want them to become self-motivated learners, seekers of knowledge, and eventually contributors to the society, no matter which occupational path they may choose!

With having such a wide span of ability levels, I don't want to let my higher students just settle, or my lower levels left behind. I want all children to be searchers for knowledge, collaborators, and communicators, while being able to explore their interests. We all become more involved when we feel like what we are doing is valuable and meaningful.

My Project

I am asking for the Envision program for grades four and five. Envision is an individualized student program where students can choose quarterly, an interest project to plan, research, explore, and evaluate to reach the best quality outcome. I would like both grade level programs due to the wide range of academic levels of my students and to have a greater variety of choice. (No other teacher in my school is using this resource.) It is geared toward gifted learners, but with modification and support all students can have access and success with Envision.

Students will choose a real life project that is based on their interests!

The project gives the students a problem to complete. For example, plan a vacation for their family in which they will make an itinerary, plan meals, transportation, accommodations, and recreation all on a budget. The program provides guidance, where to look for resources, and a checklist to ensure quality work. It even encourages students to reach out to the community to find information. Fluent student-teacher dialogue is essential to facilitate revision and student reflection to assure a quality product . To me this is an invaluable and an exceptional way to prepare children for a successful future.
