My students need wobble stools to allow them an outlet for their need to fidget while they are collaborating with peers and problem solving during math class.
My students are thinkers and problem solvers. They are full of curiosity and love working collaboratively to solve problems in our project based learning classroom. They are active, social, creative, and engaged when they get to work together to solve problems. As a STEM focused school, we encourage collaboration and problem solving. Students come in daily excited to see what we are doing in class that day and ready to tackle problems as 21st century learners.
My students represent a diverse range of backgrounds and have a variety of experiences to share in the classroom.
More than half receive free or reduced priced lunch. We use our school garden and food pantry to send backpack snacks home with students over the weekends to ensure they have access to healthy food. School is their safe place and one where they know that they will have their needs met by caring and supportive teachers and staff. I serve a high poverty population and receive $275 a year to get the materials and supplies that I need to provide an engaging, hands on classroom experience where learning math is fun and relevant for my 145 students.
My Project
The wobble stools I would like to purchase combine movement and focused collaboration and problem solving. They will replace some of the old, broken and bulky chairs in my room. I am working hard to create a classroom that offers flexible seating options to meet the needs of active middle school learners. With the wobble stools, students will have a way to wiggle while they work. This seating option will allow for easy collaboration on our STEM activities and project based learning lessons. It will also provide an outlet for that excess middle school energy that often leads to disruptions and distractions in the classroom.
Middle school students are active and social by nature, and they need creative outlets for their energy in order to be successful.
Many of my students have been diagnosed with ADHD and benefit greatly from flexible seating options. These purchases will give them the ability to wiggle and still focus on the problems they are solving instead of their extra energy.
