French immersion rocks! My students are in the French immersion program: they learn the second grade curriculum in French. My students don't come from France, their families don't speak French and most importantly: this program is open to everyone!
They spend half the day in my class, where French is the only allowed language!
With me, they learn math, science and literacy in French. They spend the other half of the day in the English class where they learn to read, write and spell in English.
They are incredibly fast learners and I am so proud to see their progress month after month. In first grade, they learn the basics (colors, numbers, days, months) but in second grade they are expected to say full sentences in French!
This program is a great opportunity for students to learn a new language, but also to discover a new culture!
My Project
My students need privacy partitions to help them focus better during our tests.
I teach French in a Dual Language Immersion program and in 2nd grade, students are not very confident in their language skills.
This is absolutely normal and that's why I often have them work with a partner or as a group. That lack of confidence leads some of them to copy on each other when I need them to show me what they understood. I want to show them that they can do great work by themselves! Those privacy partitions will help them focus on their own work so they can do their best!
Also, I am planning to add some help on those partitions that my students could refer to during their tests, such as numbers in French, some math vocabulary words or French sounds and alphabet. I am hoping those privacy partitions will help my students feel more confident in my French class!
