This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"People who make music together cannot be enemies, at least while the music lasts."-Paul Hindemith
This quote perfectly describes the environment in the Eden Bulldog Beginner Band. It is a safe environment where we work together as a team to accomplish a common goal, making music together.
Eden CISD is a small rural school with around two hundred students.
Most of these students will attend all twelve years of school together. In our school being in band is something many of my kids look forward to. Music class is now everyday for the 5th and 6th graders and they are so excited when they come in to class. Music class is a safe environment for them to express themselves that many of them look forward to most days. This year is the first year that beginning band is coming back to 5th Grade so we will be starting twice the normal amount of beginners than we normally do. The students could not be more excited.
My Project
Once funded, the materials requested will be checked out to each individual beginning band students. Their binder will be their home base for beginner band. It will help teach them organizational skills which will not only help them in the band program, but studies show that those skills transfer to other areas of their education and their lives. The binder will store notes, practice logs, handouts, and most importantly music. The dividers will allow students to insert their music and make marks throughout that can be removed once they no longer need them. The dividers will assist them in moving quickly throughout their binders during rehearsal. Starting beginning band with this sort of organization is the recipe for success.
Most of my students' parents spend quite a bit of money on school supplies already, and I strive to keep band an activity that is free to participate in.
By receiving the instructional materials through Donors Choose all of my students will have the materials they need to succeed and will keep them all on a level playing field. There won't be any student that is singled out because they were unable to purchase the materials requested for beginning band.
