Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are fascinated by the printmaking process! They love the idea that they can make the same picture more than once and that the image is in reverse. It is quite a challenging concept for the elementary school brain to tackle.
We are a Title I suburban school with 72 percent economically disadvantaged students.
There are over eleven hundred students in grades Pre-K through 5 in our school and I see all students from kindergarten through fifth grade. My students are curious, active, and eager to learn. They come to the art room excited and ready to go! I teach double classes which means I see on average 45-50 students per class. I need supplies that are easy to use, easy to clean, and durable.
My Project
Help make the printmaking process more accessible to my students by providing a printmaking plate for each table to use. The printmaking process challenges my students to think more creatively and strategically for they have to work the entire process sequentially and the results are a reverse image. Wow! Talk about higher order thinking! And most times my students are so involved in the creative process, they aren't even aware of all of the critical decision making they are doing.
Without the funding to purchase these printing plates my students will share one of the four plates I have.
With over forty five students in each class I teach, students will be waiting their turn and watching as others make art. By funding this project you will be helping to put the art process into the hands of my students where it belongs. When they are actively creating they are learning to solve problems and think independently.
