Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My art students are in a Title I, low poverty area. They come to school with many challenges ranging from learning disabilities to hunger. However, they always amaze me with their are creativity and imagination! They welcome new tasks with an open mind and consistently give 100% in all they do! Our school is filled with many students who come from low-income families and are limited in their experiences. Despite some problems and difficulties that many of the students are presented with daily, they still come to school with a smile on their face, ready and willing to learn! As their Art teacher, my job is to create an environment that is rich and meaningful. They all deserve the chance to feel inspired and should be given every opportunity to succeed!
My Project
Have you ever noticed that there are never enough black markers? My fifth grade students run into fading lines with old Sharpie markers which turns into frustration when they are in the art making zone. These new markers will help make their Optical Illusion illustrations the best they can be with crisp clean lines that add movement to their pieces. All grade levels kindergarten through fifth will use the scratch boards for printmaking. We will make animals, monsters, and Andy Warhol style pop art with the scratch boards. Students always love the magic of printmaking! Finally, we need some colorful storage to keep our art supplies organized and easily accessible.
