My Students
Art is in a battle in middle school. The kids are given the opportunity to pick their electives but, unfortunately, art is losing. We have hundreds of kids at our school, yet only less than 40 have chosen art to be their all-year elective. The rest are in the 9 weeks course.
I think it is EXTREMELY important to allow the kids to experience art.
I want my students to explore different types of mediums. They should be allowed to make up their mind about what kind of art they like. For some of these kids, I only have 9 weeks or less to make that happen. I want to utilize every minute I have with them.
My Project
I want to set up a Printmaking zone in my class! I think Printmaking is a huge and important part of Art. Printmaking has different stages and processes you have to complete before you get the end result of the project. It will show them how to problem solve and work through the issues. We have done the basic printmaking projects with foam and paper. With this roller press, we would be able to explore better techniques in printmaking. I want to show them how to do linocut, woodcuts, and basic etching.
