My students need basic printmaking materials and tools such as gelli print blocks, Inovart Printfoam for Block Printing, brayers, paint, and paper to print on.
My students are amazing, smart, and creative. They deserve to have art in middle school that allows them to find their artistic passion while developing 21st century skills. Students look forward to having a creative outlet at school and in developing their skills in the visual arts. My students enter various art contests each year, some moving on to compete at the state level.
There is so much talent just waiting to be discovered!
My students have such creative ideas and a drive to discover and create. My students deserve so many more opportunities in this classroom than what myself or our school can provide!
My Project
We are in the process of transitioning from a traditional art classroom set up to a student choice based TAB (Teaching Artistic Behaviors) STEAM studio-classroom. In our studio-classroom, students are introduced to the tools, materials, techniques and styles of artists, through brief, whole-group lessons. Working as artists do in a community studio, students assume the role of artists, exploring their own ideas, interests and passions.
Opening a printmaking center in the studio-classroom would give students the opportunity to explore a new medium while creating new and exciting works of art.
To open a printmaking center we will need basic printmaking materials and tools. Students can create beautifully layered prints using gelli print blocks. They can carve drawings and designs to print into the Inovart Printfoam for Block Printing. They will need paint to print with, brayers (rollers) to apply the paint to the blocks for printing, and paper to print on. This new center would engage more students by allowing artists to have a larger variety of centers (mediums/materials) to choose from to create their work. Student work will soar to the next level with the addition of a printmaking center!
