Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine being accepted to a Gifted and Talented school where there are more projects then you are used to and students that are on the same level as you. My students truly find themselves and what makes them unique while in our academy.
We need to print! That is what my students told me. I said well you can print from my old printer in black ink if I have ink left. They were not amused and told me they wanted to be able to print in color. Since the computers in my lab are often in use while I am teaching, they also wanted a wireless alternative to print from.
Students often have to research projects and come up with Tri-fold boards to present at competitions or display in their own classrooms. Good grades are one incentive for students but we are trying to build intrinsic motivation. My students want things to be perfect and pretty but they get frustrated when they do not have the materials available for doing it. If the materials are readily available it will make it easier for students to be excited and do things to the best of their abilities. Intrinsic motivation is very important as these gifted learners continue with their education.
In Their Own Words
For many of my projects I have to look up the information online and then create posters to display in the classroom. I need a color printer to do this because the pictures I find are very colorful. I want everyone to see and feel my projects, the best way to do that is through colorful pictures making each project unique, colorful and different.
I would be the leader for this project because I choose to pick that part that was the leader role in this project. I like to be involved in helping out teachers and starting new things for my fellow classmates. I am also expected to print pictures in color for projects, but do not have a printer at home. My teacher also said I could help install the printer and come up at lunch time to help other students instead of sitting inside when the weather is too cold to go outside.
The project is important to our schools community because are school is located in an urban city and the projects we work on often are about our own city. It's also going to help our school because we are a gifted school and when people come from the state they only see pictures in black and white and this isn't very eye catching .
