Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are very bright, creative, and an absolute joy to work with! Even though the live in a very low income/high crime area, I try my best to teach them that they are just as important and deserving of all of the learning opportunities and resources that many of the students in surrounding suburban school districts do! My students have a passion for technology and love to engage in technology-based projects/activities. My heart breaks when they ask me, "Why can't we have the same technology equipment like other schools have in the neighboring towns?" I'd love to give them the world. They deserve it, and I know they will truly value and appreciate those who strive to contribute and make a difference in their educational endeavors.
Many of my students would rather stay after school than go home at the end of the school day.
At least when they are working after school, I have the comfort of knowing that they are being productive and developing workplace readiness skills in a safe environment, rather than being exposed to unimaginable dangers of hanging on the streets of our inner-city community. Our kids need the tools to make this possible.
My Project
The use of the Makerbot Replicator 3D printer materials will provide the students with the opportunity to make their design ideas come to life by producing their 3-dimensional designs into actual physical models that can be held in their hands. There are a lot of new jobs that are available in the current-day workforce that require knowledge of 3D design and modeling.
This module will help prepare our students for these phenomenal career opportunities and goals.
We are also in need of the filament output material for the 3D printer as well. The assortment of colored plastics in the filament package will allow the student to reproduce their design models into physical reality by printing their model designs in plastic.
