My students need two color printers in order to print high quality photographs.

Art allows an individual to see and represent the world in a unique and inspirational way. I teach high school Biology and Photography at a charter high school in the Las Vegas valley. My students, ranging from 9th grade to 12th grade, are African-American and come from under-privileged, low socio-economic households. Our school was developed to reach out to the children of one of the worst neighborhoods in the Las Vegas valley, and provide them with a high quality education; one which they might not receive at their regularly zoned high schools.
As this is my first year being a high school teacher, I knew I wanted to provide my students with the best education I could offer. Majoring in both art and biology, I felt that this would be simple, for I had spent years studying the two subjects with great love and passion. What I did not foresee, however, was how greatly the lack of specific supplies could deter a quality education. My digital photography students initially came to my class without cameras, computers, or printers, but with the help of my administrators, we were able to offer new digital cameras and computers to all of my students. The one item we lack now, is a quality color printer.
Every day, I am more and more amazed at the quality of work my students are producing. It's hard to imagine that only 4 weeks ago, many of my students were picking up a digital camera for the first time, and purposefully looking at everyday life with an aesthetic eye. The many moments my students have captured deserve to be printed and displayed around their community. All they lack is the ability to complete the final step in creating a digital image.
My students need your help. With your donation, my students will be offered the opportunity to display their artwork at gallery exhibitions and participate in local or national contests and competitions. They will be able to proudly exhibit their work, something I feel every hard working artist deserves.
