Many students in urban/inner-city districts face high needs outside of the classroom environment. Some face schools which may be overcrowded and poorly funded. Even though some of our students face those external challenges, we make every attempt to ensure their school experience is not only educational but even the more it safe! Though we can not always control those forces which are very similar students in many inner-city schools, we are on pace to dispel this stereotype that inner school education is any less valuable than a suburban school.
Since we are an elementary and middle school, our students are on pace to perform exceptionally well and outperform some of their peers throughout the district in being accepted so the highest-performing magnet, technology and performing arts high schools in the nation.
With a strong concentration technical sciences, we are trying to even the playing field by exposing our students to materials in which they may not otherwise be able to learn from.
It is because we are working with limited resources we find that by reaching out to individuals such as your self who wish to make a difference student at a time we continually
3D printing provides a tangible framework which allows students to take an idea through a design and production process in order to complete a model. With the rise of Social media and other digital design forums, 3D printing will keep students and teachers constantly connected to new information and ideas. As opposed to traditional rotary tools, 3D printers allow students to build their models from start to finish. 3D printing technology provides an entry point to technical fields to help break down barriers to STEM.
When thinking about adding new technology, budget is always a consideration.
While 3D printing may be only one option in the maker’s toolkit, it’s a safe and approachable selection to encourage students to tinker. It offers a fluid model for linking digital design to physical production, enabling students to shape the future of STEM.
