I have worked at Western International High School for the past three years as a school counselor. I have been their counselor since they were in 9th grade and currently they are 12th graders. It has been exciting to watch the students grow and mature academically as well as physically.
Students at Western inspire me everyday.
They have learned how to overcome adversity to focus on their goals. Each year it is our goal to increase the number of students that enroll into college. Our students face various challenges on their road to college. As their counselor, I find that it can be even more challenging when I don't have basic equipment to be able to assistance them. I never want my inability to have access to certain things to be the reason a student is not accepted into college or pursue a post secondary plan.
I have been working with my students on competing their college applications, scholarships, and financial aid applications. I have been limited in my apply to assist the students due to not having printer ink. My district has not been able to provide me with supplies for my office and so I have not been able to have the students print out items they need to mail to schools, like transcripts and fee waiver letters.
I would like to make sure that the students are not waiting on me to submit needed information to a college or trade school.
It would be beneficial for me to do my job more effectively with basic office supplies.
