My Students

I teach at a Title I school located in a small, rural community in Southern Virginia where one hundred percent of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students come from families with a multitude of types, home situations, and income levels. My students all come to me with different abilities, each facing challenges on a social and emotional level. Even with all of these variables in their daily lives, there is one thing I know for certain and that is that my classroom is filled with students who love to learn!

Our classroom is a place where my students can grow and become scientists, historians, authors, and above all, leaders.

As I enter into my 5th year of teaching, things will look a little different! But I have learned every day, how to adjust and improve the environment in my classroom to cater to my students and their learning. We, as a class, have created a culture and community where new ideas are accepted and explored and where my students are excited to dig a little deeper and go the extra mile with their work!

My Project

Jammed copiers. No access to color ink. Last minute copies need to be made. Students having to wait for an adult to make copies for them. There is a long list of problems that a printer in the classroom could be the solution for!

Having a printer, with color ink, and located right in the classroom would provide my students better access to primary sources, project materials, and instant access to their virtual work.

Science and Social Studies are two subjects that I teach and I would love to give students access to their own copies of portraits of famous Virginians, the features of the planets or famous places around Virginia. There are times that extra copies are needed and or students lose their study guides and it would be great to give them a copy of their needed paper material right then and there rather than hopping in line for the copier on break. We also do lots of projects and posters in my classroom so students would love to print items to go on posters or for their projects to increase their creativity.
