Curious, imaginative, fun-loving, creative: these are just some of the words I'd use to describe my new group of students. My classroom is made up of eight smart and endearing young people diagnosed with autism. We are located in a low-income school where I need to buy most of my own supplies. An autism classroom is not run in the traditional way.
My students require a much more individualized and specialized way of learning.
They learn through hands-on materials and visuals. When provided with this type of learning environment, my students can learn and excel! But first, we need some basic supplies to keep our classroom running smoothly!
My Project
I am asking for a color printer with extra ink cartridges. I utilize a lot of colored visual in our classroom, whether it's creating social stories to help with minimizing behaviors, to printing out a picture for a student who has earned it as a reward. Either way, this printer will get a lot of use within our classroom.
A color printer for our classroom would allow for seamless lessons that include technology and visual aids.
My students can search the internet for any photos or graphics that can be used as reinforcer and print them, in color, right from our classroom. A color printer would allow children to become facilitators in their own learning by printing photos and graphics that will increase their own on task behavior. I believe children gain the most knowledge and increase understanding when they are actively engaged in learning.
Please support me in creating these opportunities for my special education students. Thank you
