My students need a printer and ink cartridges to help facilitate the acquisition of the English Language for English Language Learners!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students come from impoverished communities where resources are scarce. They have varying forms of emotional disturbances, learning disabilities and autism spectrum disorders and do not graduate from this high school to go on to college; rather, they have to find jobs and begin to support themselves by entering the workforce. Eager to come to school everyday, my students are classified as individuals who are English Language Learners and sometimes, require their work to be translated into their native language to facilitate learning.
My students need a printer to print materials that will allow their curricula to be individualized to maximize their learning.
With this printer and ink cartridges, my students will be able to gain the skills needed to prepare them for the workforce upon graduation. While it may not seem like this is a lot, this project will help facilitate the learning of the English language so that my students being able to contribute to their home through work at the onset of graduation!
Vannaya. Bano. Yùshì. Hamam. Banheiro. Not being able to understand or decipher the simplest of tasks (these are all bathroom requests) can be very frustrating for anyone, let alone someone who is an English Language Learner combined with having an emotional disturbance, learning disability or autism spectrum disorder. Rather than letting my students become frustrated and shut down to learning the English language, with this printer and ink cartridges we can embed these sight words into their classrooms, which will facilitate the understanding of sight words, or words regularly spoken. Being able to communicate freely, express how you feel, discuss a problem and then fix the problem in English are key parts needed to enter the workforce. Together we can help my students transition their native language to being able to communicate in English to be able to enter the workforce upon graduation.
