This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My second-grade scholars come from different socioeconomic backgrounds. They range between the ages of 7 and 8 years old and receive their education in an urban environment with a population of 43.4% Black, Non-Hispanic, 26.5% Hispanic, 24.4% White, Non-Hispanic, and 4.6% Multiracial. My school participates in the Federal Free School Lunch program, where 100% of our scholars receive a nutritional meal every day. They come to school despite what they are going through and work hard to accomplish set goals.
We are also one of few STEM schools in the school district that provides all of our scholars with an equal opportunity for innovation, engineering and design principles, and stewardship within the context of cross-curricular, authentic problem-based learning units.
My Project
In 2018, we were blessed to have received a HP Color Printer and ink for our classroom. Unfortunately, we are limited to how big of a project we can print. They are continuously constructing various STEM projects and can only display them on a regular 8x11 sheet of paper. Many of my students have no access to the internet at home, so having a printer in the classroom has allowed them to print their work immediately and not only display it in the halls at school but take it home to show everyone what they know!
With being in a STEM school, the projects are getting more challenging and intricate, especially being back in the actual building and I would love to capture every visible moment.
This printer would not only help my class but my whole team. Our class, as well as our school community, take much pride in our work, making the students more engaged in learning and more successful in retaining the knowledge for the future. They'll be able to explain their scientific research, share pictures of their history projects, practice and recite the poetry they are writing, brag about their awesome reading test grades, and so much more!
