Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students will be required to complete projects at the end of each unit they will be completing this spring. The items needed to help to make their projects look organized and professional are not affordable to their families.
My students are awesome.
They must strive to overcome the difficulties of just getting by day to day. They live in a high poverty area and struggle to get by on the basics. Extras, like school supplies, are out of the question for many of them. Yet, in spite of this, they work hard to succeed at school knowing that doing so will help them to achieve their dreams. They are grateful for even the smallest item that is given to them, so I know that having these donations will give them much joy. I believe that they will put even more effort into their work knowing that there are others who care about what they do at school.
My Project
Our fifth graders will be required to complete projects showing what they have learned as we explore different topics during the rest of the year. The students will be creating Civil War scrapbooks, Native American museums, research reports, and brochures using reading comprehension skills, writing techniques, math, and science to complete each project. Being able to complete something they can be very proud of will not only increase their self esteem it will also support their willingness to learn. I look forward to sharing their projects with the rest of the school and the students' parents.
I cannot wait for my students to begin their first project knowing they will have the resources available at their fingertips to help them complete the assignment quickly and efficiently.
