This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Imagine yourself back in school learning a new language. My students are learning to read, write, speak, and understand English at the same time.
My students come from all over the world!
I work with first and second grade students who are learning English in a regular education setting. My school is located in a high poverty area and technology at our school is limited. The teachers and students work hard, but technology would really help expose students to more learning.
My Project
My students need a lot of visual support to understand and share their ideas. Since their English skills are developing, a lot of their responses are given through pictures. With a printer in the classroom, students could use the Internet to find pictures and explore their thinking. I have an iPad and a computer in the classroom that students could use to create a finished product.
By using technology, students will be using the English speaking skills to work collaboratively, their reading skills to navigate the Internet, their listening skills to listen to their partners, and their writing skills to explain their finished products.
Having a printer in the classroom will help students get excited about learning.
The color copies created from the printer will motivate them to continue with their hard work. It is also important that we allow students in high poverty neighborhoods to experience the same technology as students who live in affluent neighborhoods so they are equally prepared for college and the job market!
