Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help us print. We have 32 students in our classroom. We use our printers for worksheets, extra enrichment activities like coloring pages of "Gold Rushers" and replacing lost assignments. With all of the projects we do, we need the mailboxes to organize all of our assignments.
My students are in the advanced class of our fourth grade.
Our school was considered very low performing by our State, but we have made good progress over the last ten years and have finally achieved a high rating. Our school is considered high poverty with over 70% of our student body receiving a free or reduced lunch. My students are bright and inquisitive. They have a fun, friendly sense of humor. They love learning, and they will be successful at whatever they put their minds to. But with the heavy emphasis on testing, they get too much time completing worksheets and not enough time using their imagination. I want to raise the ceiling of their expectations for themselves and enjoy learning through motivating projects.
My Project
There are many responsibilities placed on my students. Sometimes, it seems like they are being asked to do fifty things at once. Mailboxes will help students keep track of their many assignments. Other times, there are students who can't seem to get enough learning. For both those groups, we use our copier to make extra assignments to help them learn. We also use the printers to print or copy pictures for projects and posters.
The printer ink and mailboxes will make a difference in our classroom.
Every year we get less and less money for our school. In the past, if the school didn't have the funds for ink, I would ask parents, if they didn't have funds, I would buy it myself. Now, it seems no one has money. I get what I can from my school, but constantly, the school is lacking funds, so I am asking more and more of my parents. The parents are giving more than ever, but it seems as if everyone is running out of money.
