Help me give my students a printer for the visual supports they need to be successful and independent.
"Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success." -Henry Ford
We are a preschool classroom (ages 3 to 5 years old) and we serve students with special needs, and who need intensive intervention to acquire learning-to-learn skills.
My two staff members and I work daily to uphold an inclusive setting where our students learn and have fun together! Our students need support in all areas of learning, but especially language and social skills. Our ultimate goal is to prepare our students to transition up to the next (least restrictive) level in our program - last year we successfully transitioned 10 out of 14 of our students!
Our students are constantly changing and need different visual icons and supports to assist them with being as independent as possible. In order to make sure they have what they need, we need to print, a lot!
The shared printer in our work space gets a lot of use and we could use our own.
I have had many instances where I have meant to print out icons for students on card
stock, only to go to retrieve them and find that a colleague has printed out their student's document on my card
stock! It leads to a lot of unneeded waste and lost time.
If I could have a printer to print out my own materials as needed on my card stock, it would be a major resource saver! In addition, I would use it for the many-paged (between 17 and 40 pages) Individualized Education Plan documents I need for my students and be able to give parents copies with a quick turn around, instead of having to leave the meeting room for 10+ minutes to walk to the copier and back.
