Students come to me more and more technologically savvy each year. In order to meet their learning needs, I think a printer in the classroom would be great for teaching students how to properly and effectively utilize technology for school.
The majority of my students use iPads and smartphones in order to communicate via social networking or messaging.
While this is great, students often do not learn the appropriate formatting for schoolwork. As I try to prepare my students for college, teaching them the MLA Format for their English classes is a definite must.
With this printer, I envision more of my students turning in typed papers rather than handwritten. I imagine that they will understand how colleges expect their written work when they have access to a printer and can see how the formatting changes the way their assignments visually appear.
One of the goals of my school is to prepare students for college and career readiness.
While most of the jobs my students eventually obtain have yet to be invented, including a printer in my classroom makes getting them college/career ready that much easier.
