Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach second grade bilingual. I teach outside Houston suburbs. My classroom is full of LEP (Limited English proficiency) students. I have the only second grade bilingual class in my school. My students are a mix of newcomers and children of immigrants born in the USA. They feel a little bit isolated because of lack of enough English skills or lack of confidence on their abilities.
90% of my students are labeled "economically disadvantaged" which makes it difficult for staff to ask parents for donations.
My Project
As schools closings continue, my students and their parents are learning the ropes of distance learning. Many of my students don't have access to technology, meaning devices and Internet access. Some others might have access to tablets or phones but their technology skills are limited. My district was able to open their WIFI and lend out some Chromebooks. Despite my school's efforts to help all of our population, some of my students, and their families as well, still struggle to follow the online based activities.
In an effort to continue delivering activities (paper based) to my students, I have been printing packets at home for them.
My printer started to suffer the heavy load of work it has been exposed to. I would like to continue printing packets for my students in order to continue teaching them. That's why I am asking for your help to continue creating activities and printing them for my students who need them.
