Help me give my students a FlashForge 3D printer to help them continue studying 3D printing and production.
Being picked up and dropped in a country that does not speak your native language can be scary and challenging. But our students are ready to accept the challenge and we want to give them all the tools to help them.
More than 50% of our students were brought to the United States from refugee camps around the world.
For many this is only their first or second year in the county as well as their first or second year attending school in a formal education setting. Our students are not just learning the same required content as those native-English speakers, but they are also learning to speak and read the English language as well as learn the local culture. Our ESL students are hard working and knowing that they were brought here for a better life, their determination and grit is admirable.
Several years ago we we able to save enough budget money to purchase a small 3D printer for students to start to learn about 3D printing and design. Students discovered 3D printing and it was a nonstop line for designing and printing different items. Students demonstrated the ability creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills, while learning to use this new device.
The 3D printer is so well loved that it is now showing definite signs of aging and we are in need to replace our machine.
Additionally, teachers are now utilizing the students’ enthusiasm for 3D printing and are beginning to incorporate 3D printing in to their regular curriculum, making it challenging for sharing the current machine in addition to creating additional wear and tear.
Help us to bring a replacement 3D printer to encourage our students to continue learning 21st century skills and grow in their knowledge and experience using 21st century technologies.
