My students need 3D Printing! Can you imagine? Students can not have the ability to see their creations come to life with a 3D printer in our own school!
When I was a student, I was thrilled to have access to a computer in the computer lab. It was new and exciting. Our students are fortunate enough to have access to many technological devices... and now they can have the ability to print in 3D! Could you ever even imagine that would be possible?
Our population is very diverse - many nationalities and cultures and many abilities.
We are a title 1 school and in a very low-income community where most children receive free lunch. We have an in-depth special education program, a gifted and talented program, a dual language program and 2 computer rooms. Most children only experience the computer as a learning tool in school. Why not add to their experiences and teach them about 3D printing!
My Project
The possibilities are endless... 5th graders learning about dinosaurs and animal adaptations could print replicas of dinosaur teeth, 4th graders could print replicas of native American artifacts found in the various regions of the USA, teachers could print 3 dimensional math solids such as spheres and cubes to aide in comprehension, art teachers could create 3 dimensional sculptures... The possibilities are endless!
Every child deserves a fair shot at the future.
Our children come from many races, nationalities, socioeconomic backgrounds and families. We, as teachers, have the responsibility to expose our students to technology and teach them how to use it properly. A 3D printer will be a valuable learning tool and a valuable experience for our students and our teachers! And, honestly - it would be really cool too!
