"The greatest gifts you can give your children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence."(Denis Waitley)
Students benefit from activities that promote choice and independence during writing and center time.
Our school is located in Brooklyn, NY.
The average class size is twenty to twenty-five students. Our school currently has grades K-2. With each new school year, we plan to add an additional grade, eventually having grades K-5. We serve a diverse population. 92% of the students at our school receive free or reduced lunch.
My Project
We will use the laminator and laminating pouches in our class to create a variety of resources for our students. We will be able to laminate word lists for the students that will help them during Writing Workshop. Word lists will be created to help spell sight words and themed words that will coordinate with our writing units (colors, family members, months of the year, etc.). When our students are writing, they will be able to go and get a durable laminated word list that they can bring back to their seats to help them with their spelling. We will also use the laminator to create practice writing pages that students can use during literacy and math centers. These reusable resources will be put into baskets with the new dry erase markers and erasers. Students will be able to trace and write letters, numbers and sight words. Once erased, others will be able to practice the same pages. The Ziploc baggies and labels will help us organize and store all of these newly created materials.
Having this project funded will allow my students to have an abundance of new resources available to them.
These materials will help us create activities that will promote literacy and math skills. These new educational materials will give them opportunities for choice and independence in what they use during center time.
