The Miller County R3 school district is located in a rural, central Missouri farming community. The district serves approximately 260 students K-12. I see elementary and middle school students each week on a fixed schedule, each class is 50 minutes. Students may also visit the library during open library times. High school students visit the high school library on an open schedule. I also collaborate with high school teachers on a regular basis. When I am occupied with duties in either library, students are served by my certified paraprofessional.
As a school librarian in a small, rural school district, I'm constantly looking for ways to expand my students' world view.
Any additional resources help to achieve this goal. Resources may be used as activities in the library or shared with teachers through the classroom or collaboration with myself.
My Project
A 3D printer is the next step in creating a Maker Space experience for my students. Students in the high school science classes have recently used the 3Doodler pens to create cell replicas. They would now like to explore other 3D printing options with a unit on alternative energy sources.
My students need a Monoprice Maker Select Plus 3D printer to print their alternative energy designs.
Students will begin by researching alternative forms of providing power. Based on their research, students will then brainstorm ideas for new forms of energy sources or improvement to existing forms. The final step will be a digital design that will be printed on the 3D printer.
