Help me give my students a color printer to print their work and projects, and a set of speakers to use when playing music or when using videos for presentations.
My math classroom is located in a small rural East Texas city, and our public school is the very heart of our town. We are a Title I school where about one-third of our students are on free or reduced lunch. The students entering 4th grade are in the intermediate school, and they are usually very excited (and nervous) about the new environment and the new experiences it brings.
I firmly believe in our district motto: We believe in ALL students, ALL the time!
In my classroom, I encourage students to explore and search for ways to solve problems--not only in math, but in their daily life experiences. They come to me on various academic levels, and my goal for them is not only to show a progression in their learning, but for them to also feel successful and to take ownership and pride in their learning.
My Project
In my math class, I use a variety of activities to teach and reinforce many different skills. Task cards are just one of the many resources that I use in my class to keep my students engaged in their learning. I currently have to print these cards on our copier/printer which only prints in black ink. Having the ability to print the cards in color in my classroom with an HP color printer will make the cards much more appealing and less like a worksheet. There are many occasions when a student has lost a paper and is in need of another one, or I need to make a copy of a parent note. Since the copy/print machine is down at the other end of the hall, it is not convenient to print or copy while I have students in the classroom. Students will also be able to print and/or copy their work when needed.
Having a printer and ink in the classroom will be a convenient time-saver for both me and my students.
Other teaching resources that I like to use are instructional videos and songs. A new set of BOSE speakers will provide a much-needed boost to the volume of the devices used in my classroom so that I can continue to use these resources effectively. The students will also have the benefit of the use of the speakers when making multi-media presentations in class.
