This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a fifth grade teacher in East Palo Alto, Ca. My students are mainly English language learners and benefit from visuals. Because East Palo Alto is highly run by gangs and poverty, my students have to make do with the bare minimum, which is hindering their education. The charter school in which I teach can only supply the necessities and does not have enough to purchase color printers that could handle a whole class.
Since my students are coming from homes where English is not practiced, my students do not receive the practice of the oral language that they need to become proficient in English. This is causing them to perform below their potential because they are coming across basic words that they do not understand. With your help, we can give my students a fighting chance with learning a complex and vital language, English.
For this project, I am asking for a HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn Printer. This printer will allow me to print visuals in color to better meet the interest of my students and help them learn English quicker. My students currently have to rely on the visuals in their reading book, but with this printer, I would be able to print out vocabulary and spelling pages with pictures associated to each word for every student.
I cannot do this project alone. With your help, my students’ obstacles of gangs and poverty would no longer be an obstacle in the classroom. This simple project will change the lives of an entire class and help them become more fluent in English, allowing them to take standardized tests and demonstrate their true potential.
