Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my students come to school and feel defeated because they struggle with learning concepts due to their disabilities and have learning processing issues. Having a student-centered classroom will help many of the students who struggle with maintaining their attention and keep them focused.
I have a K-3rd grade classroom with special education students.
My students come from diverse backgrounds and live in a low income neighborhood. A lot of my students lack confidence in their academics and I believe that by having a classroom environment that fosters learning and is centered around the students will make content more meaningful.
My Project
The magnetic tiles I am requesting will give children a fun way to explore geometry and engineering concepts…as they build! The durable plastic tiles have magnets built right in, so they stick together from every side. My students will be able to explore concepts of symmetry, area and perimeter, angles and more. By working on these concepts, my young students will be working on STEM at an early age. The table that I am requesting will also encourage students to explore scientific concepts of light and provide a space for students to use the materials. The sensory materials will also be beneficial to my students' intellectual growth by encouraging academic discourse on the topics of STEM (mathematics, technology, engineering, and mathematics). All materials that I am requesting are washable and will provide hands-on learning experiences.
Promoting critical thinking in Science and Mathematics will shape how my special education students approach the scientific process and the world around them.
