This is my seventh year of teaching first grade! I absolutely love the age and the growth they make, especially in reading. My students are bright and full of energy, and they love coming to school to learn! They walk into school with a love of learning and I do my best to ensure they continue to have that passion for learning all throughout the year! I am always amazed by how much they learn and grow!
They walk in the door every day with smiles on their faces and are ready to learn!
My school is one of the largest in the district with almost 1,000 kids. We have seven classrooms in K-2nd grade. We have 422 students in K-2nd grade who need access to a variety of books to support their reading growth. My hope for the students is to have access to valuable resources to develop their literacy skills and get them ready for the following grade!
My Project
I am currently finishing up my Master's Degree with a certification in reading to become a reading specialist. One of my assignments is to write a grant to support my colleagues. This project will support all of the kindergartens, first and second grade students in my building! All of these books will give the students in kindergarten, first and second grade a variety of books to choose from on a variety of reading levels.
This will help us make sure that all students have new and exciting books to choose from when they pick books to read!
These grades move through so many reading levels throughout the school year. Kindergarten has 4, first grade has 7 and second grade has 3. That requires a large number of books so that kids can have access to a variety of quality of books.
The addition of these books will allow the students to choose either fiction or nonfiction books during our reading time to add to their reading basket that are at their independent and instructional level. Reading books at their independent and instructional level will help them make the growth and progress in reading to get them where they need to be by the end of the year. My goal is for the students to have a love of reading! The students will love getting their hands on the new and exciting books to help them become better readers!
