My students are special because, we were hit unexpectedly by Hurricane Harvey and a lot of my students whom are already living in low income based housing, have lost tremendous amounts of their homes due to the flooding. Majority of the students have been displaced and are living in shelters.
The school I work at in Port Arthur Texas, took on the most flooding, so not only are the students displaced from their homes, but also from their school, because now we are housed in two different other schools.
It has become a real struggle to teach the students because they are out of their own settings and are having to adjust to a whole different setting of teaching and the environment.
My Project
The work station will allow privacy and enhancement of their fine motor skills and will also help them to focus while doing their individual assignments. With the workstation the students will be able to work alone without being interrupted by their classmates. Being in the classroom, I have noticed that some students are easily distracted and may tend to lose focus easily when they are around and are in close proximity of their peers/classmates. Again with this workstation it will help me not only maintain control but it will also help with excess communication among the students in the classroom.
