Most educators feel their classroom of students are the best and greatest. Although I can't argue with their opinions, I happen to think that I have the best and greatest students on this planet. There isn't a day that I don't look forward to seeing their faces and seeing them develop in knowledge and wisdom before my eyes. I may be their teacher, but they teach me so many lessons each day as well. Currently, I am educating a set of curious, friendly, and resilient students that are constantly excited about learning.
My students attend a Title I school located in the South Bronx in which 30% live in shelters.
Despite the obstacles they face on a daily basis, they are always eager to learn and never give up hope. As their teacher, I buy the majority of the materials they need to help them achieve their academic goals out of my own pocket because I want to provide them with the opportunities to learn and experience things they never imagined. I want to instill the joy that learning can bring regardless of the challenges within their own lives.
It is important for students to learn and explore their history and the history of the world they live in. That is why, I am asking for your help, to support my students building their knowledge of American History through the usage of primary documents. A primary document provides direct or firsthand evidence about an event, object, person, or work of art. Primary sources include historical and legal documents, eyewitness accounts, results of experiments, statistical data, pieces of creative writing, audio and video recordings, speeches, and art objects. Currently, my students had primary documents that I find online. However, with your help they will have colorful and impacting resources related to our topics of discussions. Presently, we are learning and exploring the American Revolution. Your support will contribute to not only expanding my students understanding of American History but it will also provide them with additional classroom supplies such as pencils, laminating sheets, tape, and color printing paper. I hope you find it within your heart to support my students' learning! Every dollar counts!
