My students need interesting and exciting books to read and enjoy over the summer to build on the success they have made this year.

My students attend a pre-kindergarten through fifth grade elementary school in New York. My students attend school in one of the poorest congressional districts in the nation-an area with a very high concentration of poverty. Most, if not all, of my students are eligible for free lunch.
The expert in anything was once a beginner.
My students are a hard working group who are persistent and determined to do well in school. They need essential resources to enable them to maximize learning opportunities and help them to do their best work every day.
My students are a group of hard workers and many of them have made tremendous progress this year.
School may stop for the summer, but LEARNING SHOULD NEVER END.
They need interesting and exciting books to read over the summer to build on the success they have made this year.
My students are a group of hardworking first graders.
Many of my students have special needs, are repeating a grade or just struggling to meet grade level expectations.
The assortment of high-interest, low level books that I am requesting such as the Frogs, A Balloon for Isabel and the Snowy Day contain important and essential sight words that my students must learn and master to become successful readers. These books contain whimsical and interesting characters, rhymes, silly words, and sight words that will help them become better readers and keep them actively engaged. No doubt, these are books that they will want to READ and REREAD over and over again! The Draw and Write journals, crayons and pencils will enable them to respond in writing to the stories. Opportunities to read and write on a daily basis over the summer will help to prevent summer reading loss.
By supporting this project, my students will not only have interested and exciting books to read during the summer, they will have inncreased opportunities to build their oral reading fluency skills EVERY DAY! No doubt, these books will also offer them engaging stories and whimsical poems to enjoy as well as repeated exposure to important sight words they need to know that will place them on the path to becoming better readers.
School may stop for their summer vacation, but their LEARNING SHOULD NEVER END! Support this project and spark a love for reading and preventil summer reading loss!
