Preventing Reading Difficulties

Help me give my students a structured literacy approach to reading. The lesson plans and magnet letter kits will help my students, especially those at risk for dyslexia, become successful readers.

My Students

I love my students and my community! I have amazing students who are driven and always strive to succeed. These students exhibit a wide range of academic skills that demand a variety of ways to enhance their learning.

As a teacher, I try to provide engaging, rigorous, and differentiated activities every day.

These children are growing up in a fast-paced world and I want them to be prepared to keep up with these demands and acquire 21st century learning skills.

My Project

Many people don't realize that 20% of the population have dyslexia. This means each year there are several students in my classroom with dyslexia.

It is important to me that I provide effective instruction for all my students.

As I've studied and learned about dyslexia the past year, I have learned that the way that students with dyslexia learn to read, is also best way to teach reading. This is a method called, "structured literacy." It is an explicit, systematic, and cumulative approach to learning. Structured literacy is critical for students with dyslexia, but beneficial for all students.

My project involves purchasing a teacher's guide with explicit lesson plans for teaching reading with this approach. I also need magnet letter tiles for students to build words to apply the concepts we are learning.

Please help me give all my students, even those with dyslexia, a chance to become successful readers
