My students come from a rural community with high levels of poverty in our community but not much diversity. My library serves as a place where students can work on projects, study with friends and get lost in a good book. Some of those books help students see themselves in the books and others help students understand other cultures and ways of life.
As we join the Project LIT Community, students will be able to get their hands on culturally relevant books that will not only teach them empathy for others but also create a culture of loving to read.
As we plan for our first year for Project LIT: NMS, we plan to partner with community members to create book clubs that bring people from all ages of life together to discuss meaningful young adult literature. Many students do not have access to books at home or the funds to purchase the books we will discuss in our Project LIT book club, so we need your help getting these titles into the students' hands.
My Project
Our school library is a great resource for students but only has one copy of most books. For students to participate in a book club like Project LIT, we need multiple copies of books for students to be able to have great conversation around these titles.
By donating to this project, you are putting books into students' hands that will ultimately make them better citizens in this world by helping build empathy, creating dreams and opening the world to their young imaginations.
The great thing about books are that they can take you anywhere. All of these books will transform students to a world very different than the world they are growing up in. There is no limit to where they can go when they have the world at their fingertips.
