My students need new pretend play materials! Many of their materials and furnishings in the pretend play area have become so old and outdated that they are no longer safe, nor interesting to the students!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are kind, sweet, creative and inquisitive. I serve students from ages 3 to 6 in a special needs classroom in a high poverty district - providing services to students who are most in need.
They deserve to have the same opportunities in school as their more affluent peers.
They deserve to have access to equitable materials, and explore their world in a way that is developmentally appropriate.
My students deserve access to colorful materials, hands-on activities and materials that will encourage exploration, language building, and fine motor skills in the classroom - skills they will use for the rest of their lives.
My Project
Our dramatic play center needs a DRAMATIC update! Many of our pretend play materials are old, outdated, or just plain not functional (aka broken!). Working with the youngest students - they learn best through PLAY! There isn't a more exciting and engaging way to incorporate early literacy, math and social skills than through dramatic play!
Having access to new, engaging and exciting pretend play materials is the best way to encourage even our most shy students to speak up and practice their social skills with their peers!
This project includes a "Diner" so the students can practice talking with their peers through giving orders as customers, pretending to be servers and cooks in a restaurant. It also features materials to set up a "grocery store" (complete with an adorable grocery cart) for the students to set up their own store in the classroom. I've also included some materials to set up a "post office" for students to write and receive letters!
This project includes materials to set up four different themes for the dramatic play centers in the classrooms - which will be presented on a rotational basis in order to maintain maximum student engagement with the materials throughout the entire school year!
I've also picked the most sturdy materials (many made of wood) in order to have the most durable dramatic play area EVER!
