I teach 32 preschoolers every day. Preschool is usually their first exposure to school and I want to make it a positive experience. Students come to school in the morning or in the afternoon for 3 hours at a time. I want my students to be reading at the end of the year. My students come from a very economically diverse background. A lot of my students are learning English as their second language. They speak Somali, Vietnamese, Spanish, and Chinese. I have a lot of different cultures represented in my classroom. My biggest challenge is accommodating these different languages. Many students come to preschool not speaking or knowing any English.
My Project
My last Donors Choose project was for pretend play materials. Now that we have those materials, we are in need of storage. The kids are loving the new area and their imaginations are going wild but the storage of these materials right now isn't working. They are not able to see all of the supplies which makes it a problem when they are looking for the materials to pretend with. Right now the area is set up like a vet, but we are lacking the storage so they are unable to see the medicine and the bandaids. With these new storage shelves, preschoolers will be able to see the supplies they can play with.
I am trying to teach preschoolers organizational skills and with these new shelves they will be more organized when it comes to their play.
They will be able to see their materials and they will be able to put their supplies away correctly for the next kiddos.
