My Students

My students are wonderfully diverse and creative. They strive to learn new skills that are both useful in their personal, creative and potentially career lives.

These students come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds with a common goal which is to learn to design, create and maintain costumes for our theatrical department.

This class also performs an invaluable service to our school's drama department by costuming our shows, working backstage during performances and maintaining the costume closet. This, in turn, enriches our school's service to our community which is to provide theatre experiences for all.

My Project

Our Technical Theatre: Costume class is in its second year of implementation. We are completely self-funding through our Theatre Department and have relied mostly on donated equipment. My students come to me with a varying level of skills from no experience to moderate experience.

Currently, we have limited equipment to use and the students are very good at sharing but expanding our pressing station from two irons and one ironing board to 6 irons on 3 ironing boards would make our construction so much more efficient.

In addition to learning to costume our theatrical projects, the students are also learning to iron garments which is a valuable life skill.
