Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help us preserve our work and the earth! Our class needs an in-class laminator to preserve our work and centers.
My students are in the first grade at an empowerment school in Nevada.
Many of the students that attend my school come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. 85% of the students in my class receive free or reduce school lunches. My students love writing and creating their own books for their classmates to read. They love to work together as a team and encourage and coach each other through their problems.
My Project
While we have a school laminator to use, it is often broken or is out of laminate. This in-class laminator would provide my students with the opportunity to preserve their work to keep in their portfolios. These portfolios would be shared with their parents during parent teacher conferences to show progress and growth. My students will learn about how to choose their best work to put into their portfolio and the importance of that work will be reinforced since the students will be laminating their work. The laminator will also help us in the classroom to reduce waste. Often times activities are re-made each year, whereas if we laminated the materials the activity could be reused each year.
This project will help inspire my students to create their best work so it can be laminated.
While this may not seem like it will have a direct impact, the students will be excited to use the laminator to preserve their work.
