This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent."
- Victor Hugo
My students are thirsty for creative outlets to explore in music. With up to date tools to explore music and composition, we might discover the next Beethoven in music class!
I have the privilege of teaching music to over 400 kindergarten through fifth grade students at a Title 1 school in Virginia, where many of the students receive free or reduced lunch.
My younger students love to sing and dance. My older students love exploring different styles of music and playing it themselves. They enjoy sharing music through performance with their families and the community.
Our school is committed to supporting our students and helping them achieve in all areas of learning. With a limited budget, any teaching tools purchased for music must be well taken care of so many students can use them.
My Project
Our music classroom recently acquired a set of iPads to use. We would love to use them for years to come, and will be able to do that with the purchase of protective cases and screen protectors. Students will use the iPads to explore different types of music, practice their music knowledge with interactive games, and use notation applications to compose. The headphones will help students to focus on their individual projects, without the distraction of other sounds in the classroom. As many know, the music room is often the noisiest place in the school!
Technology continues to grow all around us.
Using iPads in the music classroom can be used as a learning tool in many ways. Your donation to this project will help to protect our resources to be used by many children for years to come.
