This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 7th grade classroom is in Southwestern Arizona and consists primarily of students who come from low income families. Our school is a title one school and all students receive free lunches. The majority of my students do not have a variety of books within their homes and have little access to them within our school facility as well. Although, my students are low performing academically, they are demonstrating a strong desire to improve. They need a stronger literary environment in order to expand their knowledge and their view of our world.

My Project

The use of the novel, The Diary of Anne Frank will be used to teach the students a wide variety of standards. They will not only be reading about an extremely important aspect of our history but they will also be discovering the importance of writing as a means of passing on this history. Within the classroom, the students will use the novel to recognize aspects such as theme, character development and all components of plot. They will also be learning about writing components within this novel study. They will be learning about personal narrative writing and how to effectively express themselves. This is just the beginning of what they will learn as they read through this classic novel.
