Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach seventh-grade science in a rural school. Our community is very diverse with many cultures represented. Over 80% of our children qualify and receive free or reduced-priced lunch, which means many of our children live in poverty.

We are also experiencing a growing number of families that are homeless.

Even though our children come from many disadvantaged homes, they come to school happy and so excited to learn. They know that they will leave with new knowledge every day.

My Project

To have preserved turtles for my children to explore and observe would mean the difference between reading about a turtle and knowing about a turtle. They would make quantitative and qualitative observations, they would be able to study a turtle's physical characteristics up close and personal. My children would study the behavioral traits of turtles while they have a preserved turtle as a model.

For my children to have a preserved turtle to observe, study and explore would be the difference between my children reading about a turtle and knowing about a turtle.

It would be an experience they would never forget. Please help me bring science to life through preserved turtles. My children would be able to observe and explore using their hands, eyes, ​and minds to learn about the amazing cold-blooded turtle.
