Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students for this project consists of 5th grade students who are enthusiastic about making music, they are the campus choir. These group of students are always up for any challenge when it comes to reaching their goals and musical endeavors. Whenever they are called out for presentations like Red Ribbon Week or even Christmas Caroling, they not only lift their school's spirit, but also transcend and touch the inner most soul of others who witness their love for music. They truly are committed students who have transformed the campus' atmosphere and culture.
This transcending love for music might be contributed to their Hispanic background rich in culture.
A neighborhood of people who celebrate musical personalities such as Jose Feliciano. Mostly known for his Christmas hit "Feliz Navidad" who was born blind, but beat all odds on his way up to the top. This is what I see in my students' culture, a community who strives to be the best despite their struggles. The school is made up of students who qualify for free and price reduced lunch and dinner, which is a means of economic need for low-income families throughout the campus.
My Project
When performing in a musical setting like a Choir, the music not only needs to be taken care of, but also the way the group is visually perceived. While the music prepared might sound appealing to the ears and the Choir is well organized in rows, if the Choir is not unified by attire, it could distract the audience from enjoying the performance.
Investing in formal attire for a school choir is important because it will not only lift the students' spirits, but the school community as well.
The students will feel a sense of belonging which will in turn motivate them and others to do well in school. Students' education is enhanced when they are motivated to perform in a choir because it requires them to read, memorize, count and feel the beat. When they perform for their peers, they will generate a sense of awesomeness with not only their music, but with their attire, which will enhance everyone's educational experience.
